On Monday’s Morning Focus John Cooke spoke with Joan Freeman, CEO & Founder of Pieta House  who said 50% more people seeking help for suicide and self-harm
Pieta House the suicide and self-harm crisis centre has seen a significant increase in the number of people seeking help this year. In 2011 Pieta House has seen 2,000 people which is 50% more than they have seen in the last 5 years combined.
Joan said that while the rise in suicide numbers this year is certainly worrying, it’s a positive progression that people who find themselves in crisis are aware there is help out there and are contacting Pieta House,and that they want to remind people at this time of year that if they feel they can’t cope to please contact us. The services are free of charge
With four centres already established in Dublin and one in Limerick, Pieta House is currently seeking to expand across Ireland.

A survey commissioned by the Teachers’ Union of Ireland (TUI) and conducted by independent researchers Behaviour & Attitudes shows that more than three out of every four people believe that there should be little or no cutbacks in education in next week’s  Budget. The results also show that a majority of the public wish to see the State subsidy payable to private fee paying schools eliminated.
76% – believe there should be little or no cutbacks in education                       

17% – believe there should be some cutbacks, though of significantly lower levels than in other areas                                                                          

4% – believe there should be the same level of cutbacks as other areas
Bernie Ruane, Shannon teacher and President of the Teachers’ Union of Ireland  discussed the results with John.

An Ennis Councillor is staunchly standing by his description of a traveller encampment on the outskirts of Clare’s County Town as an "infestation". 
Six traveller families including up to 10 young children have been parked up on the side of a link road to the M18 near Barefield for the past two months.
Brian Meaney- who’s also Chair of the Clare Traveller Accomodation Consultative Committee claims an incursion like that brings filth and a general malaise to an area and completely undermines the efforts of the local community
He denies that his comments are racist or that he needs to consider his position as a local representative

Inagh won the All Ireland Junior Club Championship title, beating Tara of London in their final at Ashbourne yesterday
The Exiles opened scoring with a goal inside a minute, but they still trained at half time 1-03 to that goal – Emily Lynch netting for the Clare side

Inagh then pulled away in the second period, scoring goals through  Fiona Lafferty, Patricia O’Loughlin, Helen Heher and Tara Rynne
A late goal for the Londoners wasn’t enough to spoil the Inagh party – they won 5-4 to 2-4
