The Today Show – Wednesday April 25th

On today’s edition of The Today Show, Gavin Grace spoke with Clare County Coroner Isobel O’Dea and Consultant Psychiatrist Dr. Moosajee Bhamjee in a continuation of our coverage of suicide and mental health awareness. Ms. O’Dea discussed the role of the Coroner for families bereaved by suicide and explained the role of the Coroners Service in Ireland and locally. While Dr. Bhamjee focussed on mental health issues.  Also on the show Liam Minogue of the East Clare Reconnect & Recovery Network discussed his personal battle with depression. After enduring several years of depressive moods and high anxiety levels, Liam had what he refers to as his “personal breakthrough” during the summer of 2008. He credits his recovery and continual personal development journey to the use of his Wellness Recovery Action Plan. His journey has taken him from working in the building industry to now working full time as an Advanced Level Facilitator for the Wellness Recovery Action Plan – WRAP Ireland.

Ciaran O’Connell, Chairman of the Clare Rose of Tralee Centre also spoke to Gavin today in advance of Friday night’s Clare Rose selection. This year the centre are putting on a different type of Clare Rose event ~ which aims to connect local and rural business with the whole of county of Clare ~ making the country community aware of the urban businesses and the urban community aware of the country businesses. The organisers plan to create this awareness by having promotional stands and demonstrations intertwining with crowd participation in the event room of this year’s selection, which will be open to the public from 7pm on the event night. They are also holding a raffle on the night and all proceeds will go to Cahercalla Hospice, Ennis
