The Today Show – Wednesday May 30th

This afternoon saw Gavin meet Clare Rose 2012, Orla McDonagh.  The Ennistymon woman is deep in preparations for this weekend’s Regional Finals for the Rose of Tralee.  The competition takes place in Portlaoise, and Orla explained that she has a 7 out of 29 chance of making it onto the International Selection committee in Tralee in August.  Gavin reckons she has the stuff required, and hopefully we’ll see the saffron and blue on the Kerry stage later this summer.

We also heard about a new outreach centre opening in Ennis, which we hope will make a big contribution and difference to the community.  The Emotions Peer Support Centre is located at the Clonroad Business Park.  The volunteer-run drop-in centre aims to help people who are finding life a bit tough, and are in need of support and one of those involved, Daniel Meehan, told Gavin that he hopes it will empower people to overcome mental and emotional challenges.  The facility is open Monday-Friday, 9:30-4:30.

Marty Mannering told us of an event this weekend which aims to bring about a return to old time traditional events – it’s being held in Abington, Co. Limerick – and after the smashing weather this past weekend, Dr. Maire Finn used our weekly health slot to tell us all how to deal with the issues brought about by the summer including sunburn and hayfever.  If you ever have questions for Dr. Finn, you can email them in confidence to today@clare.fm or text/call during the show.  See you tomorrow!
