The Today Show – Friday June 1st

The Mayor of New York is seeking to ban the sale of fizzy drinks above half a litre in order to curb obesity in the Big Apple.  Today, Gavin asked if a similar initiative should be implemented in Ireland, and got the views of Dr. Muireann Cullen , whoe is the manager of the Nutrition and Health Foundation.  She said that while such a proposal has it’s merits, it can only form part of the overall solution to whaat she believes is an incredibly serious problem.

David Neylon told us all about the Labasheeda Fun Weekend, which among others will see Crystal Swing come to town, and Caimin Barrett of Sixmilebridge GAA Club made a call for old GAA videos from throughout the county.  Caimin is among people with The Bridge who are converting the old tapes to DVD in order to ensure they’re not lost.  If you have something that is of use, email him at cb12005@yahoo.co.uk and you can check out some of their work to date at www.youtube.com/user/smbgaatv.

On the show today, we also heard about some remarkable generosity from an Irish-American billionaire, and fears for the future funding of an important immigrant centre in New York, as part of our weekly check-in stateside.  Have a good weekend – we’ll be back on Tuesday, after the Bank Holiday.
