Morning Focus Friday August 17

‘Rainbows of Remembrance’ is an event taking place in Spanish Point this weekend, for Feileacain – the Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Association of Ireland
It’s for local parents who’ve been affected by the devastating loss of their children at the earliest stage of life – and it’s hoped a family day out, will help them to celebrate those tragically short lives, and honour the memory of the children they’ll never forget

On Friday’s Morning Focus John spoke to some of those involved in the event, including Laura O’Connor from Maurice’s Mills who spoke about her baby Gavin, and what happened as she reached full term in her pregnancy last February

A week in Summer is a  Short Story by the late Maeve Binchy, written specially for the Merriman Summer School as part of bi-centenary celebrations in 2005.
Maeve had attended the Merriman summer school regularly over the years, since 1968 and as part of events in August 2005, not only did she write a specially commissioned new story, she also read " A week in Summer" to those gathered for the summer school at the Spa Wells Centre in Lisdoonvarna
With thanks to the organising Committee of the Merriman Summer School, we were delighted to share the story with listeners so we encouraged them to sit back, relax and enjoy as we remember one of Ireland’s Best loved writers, Maeve Binchy and her County Clare themed work – " A week in Summer"
