The Afternoon Show – Thursday November 1st 2012

On The Afternoon Show today Gavin Grace spoke with Eddie Downey. Eddie is the Deputy President of the Irish Farmers Association and the group’s countryside spokesman. The IFA has called for a full review of the existing services offered by post offices and an improvement in the product offering, in order to safeguard the long-term viability of many post offices. In its submission, IFA has also called on An Post to publish the criteria used when deciding on what post offices to close, and for better consultation with local communities if post offices are to close.

Siobhan Carroll is the CEO of ACT for Meningitis; she spoke to Gavin about how the charity is issuing a warning for winter. There is a higher risk of Meningitis during the winter months. As people spend a lot more time indoors and with close contact, germs are spread more easily. Also, coming down with a ‘cold’ or the ‘flu may weaken the immune system making you more susceptible to the disease
