The Afternoon Show – Friday February 22nd 2013

Joining Gavin on today’s Afternoon Show, Livestock Editor with The Irish Farmers Journal – Justin McCarthy discussed how Irish supermarkets are pulling Bird’s Eye Spaghetti Bolognese, Shepherd’s Pie and Beef Lasagne dinners, after the company found horse DNA in another one of their products. The precautionary measure is being taken after a Chilli Con Carne meal, sold only in Belgium, tested positive for equine DNA.  The product was made at a plant in the Netherlands. It had been feared that revelations around the inclusion of horse meat in beef products could potentially derail the rapid growth in the value of Irish beef exports. However, reports from within the industry are of a very strong demand for fresh Irish beef.

Hylda Queally is a Hollywood Agent and hails from Barefield and spoke to Gavin ahead of this weekend’s biggest film event – The Oscars!
