The Afternoon Show – Tuesday February 26th 2013

On The Afternoon Show today, Margaret Martin, the Director of Women’s Aid spoke to Gavin following the launch of its “2in2u” national public awareness campaign, which highlights the abuse of younger women in dating relationships.  The two week long campaign, now in its third year, highlights unhealthy and abusive behaviours.  As part of the campaign young women are encouraged to trust their instincts and to take a relationship health check at www.2in2u.ie if they are anxious or worried about their boyfriend’s actions. Alternatively you can call Women’s Aid on 1800 341 900 between 10am and 10pm.

James Doyle is the National Chairman of the IRDA (Irish Rural Dwellers Association) and also joined the show to talk about the setting up of a rural forum, which will be discussed when the Irish Rural Dwellers Association meets an Oireachtas committee this afternoon. Members expect to discuss a range of issues when they meet with the Committee on Environment, Culture and the Gaeltacht. The Committee will continue its hearings on the impact of flooding on communities around the country and are also seeking the establishment of a rural forum, where “rural people and organisations come together in a unified way to put their problems and proposals before government” a number of times a year.
