The Afternoon Show – Friday June 7th 2013

On today’s Afternoon Show Gavin Grace was joined by the Friday Panel, which included Journalist Margaret O’Brien, Peter O’Connell from the Clare Champion and Trea Heapes from Pure Camping in Querrin and Loop Head Tourism. The panel discussed how the Government’s to decide next week what to do about banning alcohol sponsorship of sporting events.  It is believed that current plans for legislation will see drink companies banned from sponsoring large sporting events by 2020, with some new rules possible as early as 2016.  Sporting organisations have expressed concern that they will find it hard to find funding elsewhere but as others point out the problems associated with alcohol consumption in Ireland. The panel were asked would the government be right to press ahead? They also spoke about how the people of Ireland will be asked to vote on the future of the Seanad later this year.  We asked should the Upper House be saved or is it just an expensive talking shop?  Also, over 1,400 Clare students have this week begun the dreaded Leaving Cert.  The panel talked about their own memories of sitting the state exams. They also talked about the weather – Met Eireann say this week’s sunny weather is set to last through the weekend.  What will you be doing to make the most of it?

Chef and Food Blogger Paul “Calso” Callaghan was also in studio to talk about the do’s and don’t of barbeque’ing and what Summer dishes could compliment eating outside in the sun and what you can do in the garden to help compliment your dishes.  For details, recipes, tips and advice on all food related matters please visit http://thesustainablelarder.blogspot.ie

Jan also has some tips for students who might be having some restless nights due to exams. The Sleep Council is a generic body that aims to raise awareness of the importance of a good night’s sleep to health and wellbeing.
