The Afternoon Show – Thursday October 31st 2013

The Afternoon Show has a distinct Hallowe’en theme today as Máire was joined by Anthony Kerrigan from Ghost Eire. Ghost Eire is a paranormal team based in the South West of Ireland. They investigate unusual historical haunted locations along with places that have never been investigated before using equipment with scientific emphasis and conducting old traditional experiments. Their objective is to find answers to the supernatural and spread the word of the paranormal.  They have investigated possible hauntings at Loop Head Light House, in Kinvara, Gort and Tarbert over the years aswell as right across the country.

Clare FM’s Denise Woods also paid a visit to the Club to speak with Founder Gerry O’Mahony about what it takes to be a professional Weightlifter. The Miltown Malbay Weightlifting club has only been open since 2010 but is already producing serious contenders in the European Championships and also some Olympic hopefuls.

Gerry Molloy and Andy Palfreyman from folk rock band Bushplant and Conor Keane were also guests of the show today. In celebration of Glór’s IMRO Award for Munster Live Music Venue 2012, they are presenting a stand up gig – Ennis Bands Night on Friday night, November 1st – with the finest local, live talent including Bushplant, Síomha Brock, Siobhan Peoples & Murty Ryan, Seanie McGrath, Tommy Carew, DJ John Lillis and Socks in the Frying Pan. Bushplant is a folk-rock band, who have been solidly gigging and recording for over 20 years now, and have appeared all over Ireland, in France, the Canary Islands, and the UK. With a core of singer/songwriter and guitarist Gerry Molloy and drummer Andy Palfreyman, they are joined by fiddler Yvonne Casey and bass player Joe Keane, with occasional inputs from the very cream of Clare musicians.

Catriona Lowry was also in studio and  reviewed the second instalment in the Thor franchise, Thor: The Dark World with Chris Hemsworth and Nathalie Portman and she also talked about the top five scary movies to watch for Hallowe’en.
