The Afternoon Show – Tuesday November 5th 2013

Joining Máire on today’s edition of The Afternoon Show was former Republic of Ireland Manager Eoin Hand who discussed his views on today’s announcement that Martin O’Neill has been confirmed as manager of the Irish national team with Roy Keane named as his assistant. The 61-year-old has agreed to take the reins and brings in former Ireland captain Keane as his second-in-command. The 61 year old is to appoint his own backroom team, with the combined package set to cost the FAI more than 2 million euro a year. Keane will come on board as assistant manager, with Steve Walford, Steve Guppy and Seamus McDonagh joining the coaching set up too.  Clare FM’s Denise Woods was also out and about asking the people of Clare their views on today’s appointment of Martin O’Neill and Roy Keane.

Molly Muldoon, Deputy Editor of IrishCentral.com joined us for a look at what’s making the headlines in the US – including the tragic death of a Sligo native in Las Vegas, the New York City Marathon and how the issue of depression and suicide is impacting on the Irish community in New York

Irish Adventurer Mike O’ Shea will be at the Fitzpatrick’s Bar, Doolin on Wednesday 6th of November with tales of his amazing recent expeditions.  He joined Máire in studio for a chat about his motivations, the work and preparations he puts into an expedition and how mentally and physically draining they can be. Facing temperatures as low as minus fifty degrees centigrade and howling gales that confined him to his tent for days on end, Mike’s personal crusade to cross all of the major icecaps of the world is certainly extreme.  His talk will cover his travels to the world’s largest lake, frozen Lake Baikal in Northern Russia, the rarely attempted North Patagonian Icecap and his almost fatal attempt on the North Pole. He’ll also give a talk in Ennistymon tomorrow evening.

Clare Camogie PRO Brid McNamara also told us about the Clare Camogie Fashion Extravaganza – a special fundraising fashion show, which takes place in Dromoland on Friday night to raise money for Clare Camogies Development of Fr. McNamara Park and showcasing style in the banner county!  There’ll be a number of pop up shops on the night also. Tickets are moving fast so if you want to go along check out the Clare Camogie Facebook page on www.facebook.com/pages/Clare-Camogie

Claire Ni Grianna was also in studio to tell us about a comedy night will be held in Ennis next Friday the 8th November. The main act on the night is well known comedian Kevin McAleer from Omagh who is known for his northern humour. Supporting him on the night are three local amateur comedians who have been selected from an open mic gig last Sunday afternoon. Humour is a great tool for dealing with difficult situations in life and also highlighting the ridiculousness of life that inspires and uplifts people.
