On Thursday’s Morning Focus Marian Egan was joined in studio by CEO of Shannon Airport Neil Pakey

They spoke about recent and upcoming changes in the administration and the abolition of the travel tax that led to Ryanair announcing eight new routes to the Midwest airport.

Retired Psychiatrist and former Labour Party Deputy Dr Moosajee Bhamjee gave his reaction to recent calls to legalise the use of cannabis
He said that any move toward legalisation would be the start of a slippery slope and that it is a dangerous drug that can cause schizophrenia in some people
Dr Bhamjee also commented on the CEOs of four of the largest hospitals in the state writing to the HSE over budget cuts.

Mincon International Ltd is based in Smithstown in Shannon and is an Irish rock drilling engineering company with global operations

In 2010 the company played a huge role in the discovery of 33 farmers trapped in a mine in Chile
The farmers were trapped 700m below the surface for 17 days, before they were located on Sunday  – the man are said to be in good health, though it could be some time before they can be taken from the mine
A drill bit made by a Clare company was used in the operation to find the men – the firm, Minicon, employs 20 staff at it’s base in Shannon

The excavations reveal a vivid picture of life through the millennia, from hunter-gatherers making stone tools on the banks of the Shannon 8,000 years ago, to the brick-makers of Coonagh tending their kilns to supply building material for the fine Georgian houses of Limerick City.
