The Afternoon Show – Wednesday November 13th 2013

On todays show Máire spoke with Simon Brooke from Cluid Housing Association – one of Ireland’s largest and not-for-profit housing groups about the work they do. A major estate regeneration scheme was unveiled in Longford today by Cluid and the local authority – which could lead the way to changing the face of social housing in Ireland. Clúid is a funding initiative which works with local authorities to finance the transformation of estates across the country. Simon spoke about how they will be purchasing apartments in Ennis, which could help ease the local authority housing list for the county town.  Their aim is to rejuvenate derelict and run down housing in a bid to improve tenants quality of life and that of the local coomunity.

Fionnuala Sheehan, the Chief Executive of Drinkaware.ie also discussed how third-level students in Clare could be in with a chance of sharing in a prize fund of €6,000, as well as receiving mentoring from industry experts and support from celebrity ‘champions’.  That’s the offer from  DARE2BDRINKAWARE.ie, a creative competition organised by drinkaware.ie, which aims to promote responsible attitudes towards alcohol. The competition began in 2007 with a focus on short films, and Clare teams have featured heavily in the short listed and prize-winning entries down through the years.  Check out the website if you’re interested in taking part.

Aidan Courtney from the Ennis Book Shop reviewed two kids books today including, Dairy of a Wimpy Kid – Hard Luck by Geoff Kenny and David Walliams Presents: The Slightly Annoying Elephant!
