On Wednesdays Morning Focus John began by speaking to Michael Murphy – Saint Vincent de Paul MidWest Region President – about some retailers imposing a surcharge of as much as 10% on pay-as-you-go electricity and gas. Musgraves, owners of the Supervalu and Centra brands, have said any of their stores selling pay-as-you-go electricity and gas, display notices stating they charge fees for the service.
Up next The National Crime Victims Helpline today launched its Annual Report for 2013. In all there were over 5,000 contacts with victims of crime and those impacted by crime. There were 4,600 phone calls and over 400 contacts made over email and text. The 400 contacts by email and text is a 10% increase from 2012. The crime category which led to most calls being made to the Helpline was robbery/burglary/theft (23%), followed closely by assault (22%), then childhood sexual abuse (19%). Neraly 8 months after fire damage forced it to close the Imecofarm in Clarecastle has reopened to the public. The fire which happened in December 2013 thankfully saw nobody injured but did force the business to close. John spoke to Eddie Connors, Owner of Imecofarm, about the business reopening. Eddie is delighted things are back up and running.

It's All about Love' at the world's 1st LGBT Matchmaking Festival as part of the historic 150 year old Lisdoonvarna Matchmaking Festival Co.Clare Ireland. After the success of last year's event, visitors from around the world are on their way back to Lisdoonvarna village in Co. Clare in the West of Ireland. The World Famous 157 year old Lisdoonvarna Matchmaking Festival is going Gay for the second year in a row. John spoke to Eddie McGuinness who came up with the idea for The Outing to see what lies in store this year.
Irish Water Safety is urging Clare bathers to learn more about jellyfish safety. It's after a number of poisonous lion's mane creatures were spotted off Lahinch in recent days. The dangerous fish have been reported in several locations off Irish beaches including Cork where a young girl has been hospitalised following a sting. Lifeguards on Clare beaches are now conducting patrols of the coast on surf rescue boards in a bid to spot the animals before the come in contact with anyone. John spoke to Claire McGrath – Clare's Water Safety Officer – about the jellyfish appearing in Clare and what people should do if they see them.
