Morning Focus – Tuesday February 10th 2015

On todays edition of Morning Focus with John Cooke

Councillor Michael McNamara, Labour TD, spoke to John ahead of the vote regarding Clare Daly's Fatal Foetal Abnormalities Bill later this evening. Labour TD Anne Ferris says she's prepared to be thrown out of the Labour Party for voting in favour of the bill. That means Deputy Ferris will be automatically kicked out of Labour's parliamentary party – and she may not be the only one. Party leader and Tanaiste Joan Burton believes the bill is unconstitutional. Councillor McNamara explained his stance on the vote.

The latest home repossession cases that have been listed in the courts across the country during the month of January show staggering figures including  100 cases in Clare. New Beginning estimate these figures will grow into the very high thousands this year and the reality is the Irish court system is ill-equipped to deal with this. Alongside home repossessions, there are still over 90,000 distressed mortgages in Ireland. New Beginning will host a practical “Join The Tide of Recovery” seminar in The Strand Hotel, Ennis Road, Limerick on Wednesday 11th February at 7.30pm. Paul Carroll is the head of Bankruptcy Services with New Beginnings, he spoke about what is to be discussed at the seminar.

We heard from a caller Betty from Ennis who has had issues with Eircom who recently cut off her landline bill and Betty depends on her landline for her panic button. Betty has tried to contact Eircom on a number of occasions but to no joy. We will keep updated on the situation on Morning Focus.
