Morning Focus – Tuesday April 7th 2015

On Tuesday's edition of Morning Focus with John Cooke 

Residents concerned about security measures for Inis Fest will meet with organisers this evening. 
The three day festival is expected to attract stars like Nathan Carter, Damien Dempsey and Hermitage Green this summer. Over three thousand people are expected to attend each of the concerts in Tim Smythe park – however those living near by have raised fears about an increase in anti social behaviour as a direct result of it. Cadhla Brock is a resident of Old Lifford Road, Ennis she joined John in studio along with Inis Fest Organiser, Darren Purtil, to further discuss the concerns.

The Irish National Teacher's Organisation's annual congress got under way in Ennis yesterday. 
The event – which is being held in the West County Hotel – will see 850 delegates discuss a range of motions on issues affecting the country's primary schools. The Education Minister Jan O'Sullivan addressed the gathering this morning. One of the items discussed at the conference is a motion from teachers in West Clare on class sizes. Ahead of the congress John Cooke spoke to Outgoing president of the INTO and Mullagh Principal Sean McMahon who says he's delighted to host the major event and its 850 delegates in his native Clare.

Councillor Bill Slattery called Morning Focus to raise issue over the fact that the public toilets in Doolin were closed over the Bank Holiday, despite the fine weather and thousands of visitors to the area over the long weekend.  

The Marie Keating foundation will be attending the Men’s health day at the Killaloe Ballina Family Resource Centre this morning from 10.30am to 4pm to talk about the main cancers affecting men, Health organisations will also be available for information and support on the day and . . . Free diabetic testing 2pm to 4pm. Pauline O'Connor Community Information Nurse with Marie Keating Foundation spoke to John ahead of the event.

Next, John Lowe the MONEY Doctor for all your financial needs, spoke to John on a number of topics including whether it is worth getting private health insurance to beat age deadline or not and gave his advice to our listener query regarding investing in gold. 

Bebhinn O'Dowd Lernihan is 23 years old and from Ennis, she was diagnosed with leukaemia when she was just two-years-old. She will now return to University Hospital Galway, as a trainee nurse, to work in the paediatric ward, St. Bernadette’s – the ward where she was treated as a patient; She joined John in studio to share her inspiring story. Bebhinn is studying to be a nurse in King’s College in London and said it was a career path inspired by the wonderful nurses who she encountered during her illness.  Bebhinn’s experience with leukaemia recently inspired her to cut off her hair for the Little Princess Trust, a UK charity which makes wigs for chemotherapy patients. 

Frankie Coote of the Clare ISPCA and Clare Dog warden joined us in studio with a round-up of incidents including a young horse who fell into the drain at rocky roundabout and an incident in Seafield Quilty where a calf was washed up on beach with their four legs tied with strong rope. Dog Pound 68 20393
