The parish of Ogonnello is proving that communities can take charge of their own futures. In the spring, the parish held a series of 'pow wows' to look at the needs of the area and to figure out how to meet them. Isolation and the lack of a community focal point emerged as a pressing issue and since February the community has opened a pop-up part-time cafe. Originally intended to be temporary, it's now a permanent fixture and a focal point for community life and potentially for local enterprise. Ogonnello will also host a Christmas fair (December 5) and is planning a community walk over the festive season. Efforts are also well underway to build a badly-needed footpath through the village which will make the Ogonnelloe more pedestrian friendly and encourage walking and cycling by locals and visitors alike. Peadar Casey Ogonnello Exchange gave Gavin an update on progress so far.
Michael Houlihan, author of ‘The Holy Wells of County Clare’ joined Gavin in studio to discuss his work.
Jade Hoynes (21) from Killaloe *Suffers from Generalised Anxiety Disorder and trichotrillomania (a hair-pulling disorder). To help conquer these issues, she was part of the TV series ‘Bressie's Ironmind’. She spoke to Gavin about the experience.
Tom Connolly Author of The Detective – A Life Upholding the Law spoke to Gavin about his long career which saw him honoured with the Gold Scott Medal for Valour in 1975.
Clare IFA celebrates 60 years and, to mark the event, Gavin was joined by Andrew Dundas Chairperson Clare IFA (Ardnacrusha); Jim Enright, Former Clare County Secretary and County Chairperson (Cratloe); and Michael O'Donoghue President of Clare IFA (Tubber).
