Morning Focus – Friday, December 11, 2015

As Clare County Council issued a fresh warning for severe weather and flooding Clare, Morning Focus heard from Tom Tiernan, Senior Engineer with Clare County Council and from Pat Mason of Springfield, Clonlara.

After a bid to improve mobile phone coverage for customers around Clare who raised their concerns with Morning Focus, we revisited the topic. On November 11, Morning Focus was contacted by Mount Callan resident, Helen Rynne about the interference she, her family and neighbours, on the Three phone network, were experiencing. With Helen's permission, we sent her details to Three. We then spoke to some other affected listeners on the same network – these included Anne Fitzgerald who spoke to us from Sixmilebridge as well as John Torpey from the same area.
On December 3, we asked Morning Focus listeners to send us any complaints so that we could forward them to Three. The response was huge. We forwarded details (3-4 A4 pages) of complaints from Three customers all around the county. (*We also sent on details to Vodafone and we're awaiting a response). On December 10, we received a statement from Three Ireland saying they were aware that some customers were experiencing intermittent disruption on voice calls in the Clare area. The statement said that this issue had now been resolved and the company was continuing to monitor traffic to ensure there is no further interference. This morning, we checked in with Three customers Helen Lynne and Anne Fitzgerald to see if things had improved.
With the St Vincent de Paul National Appeal underway, Gavin spoke to John Cullinane of St Vincent de Paul in Clare.
