An application by a sea captain to have two operators of a rival ferry company in Doolin jailed has failed

Dick Grant of Aran Islands Fast Ferries had sought the commital of Kevin O’Brien and Bill O’Brien of Doolin Ferries for the alledged breaching of a court order.

However, the Judge at Ennis Circuit Court dismissed the application saying that it was time for "peace and quiet at Doolin"

The dispute between the two companies goes back five years arrising from tension at Doolin Harbour.

A court order has been in place which has established an exclusion zone around the two companies’ offices at the harbour and also says that the parties not interfere with each other’s business.

Mr Grant claimed that on the 25th May last, Kevin O’Brien breached the court order by assaulting him, touting for business and blocking the harbour with a boat.

He also claimed that Bill O’Brien blocked the harbour with the same boat.

Counsel for both Mr O’Briens denied the allegations

Judge Sean O’Donneabhain said that the details of Mr Grant’s affidavit were "insufficient" and he dismissed the case, adjourning the issue of costs in the case until October.
