Ennis Oil Spill Cleared Up Following Road Closures Overnight

Gardaí say an oil spill that caused havoc on one of the main artieries into Ennis overnight has now been cleared up.

Gardaí say an oil spill that caused havoc on one of the main artieries into Ennis overnight has now been cleared up.

The spillage covered a vast distance from Dromoland on the M18 motorway to the Lahinch road in Ennis, with the Ennis by-pass and parts of the Kilrush Road also affected.

It's understood that at number of cars left the road at Caherea, near Lisseycasey on account of the oil slick, though there were no reports of injuries.

The were a number of road closures while crews from Clare's County Fire Service, Gardaí, Clare County Council and Transport Infrastructure Ireland worked to clear the spillage, but all roads has since been declared safe and re-opened.
