A prominent Clare businesswoman has been appointed to lead the drive to promote Ireland's design and craft sector abroad.

Breege O'Donoghue, from Boston in North Clare, recently retired from the board of Primark after nearly forty years with the retail giant.

She is also currently a non-executive director of C&C and of Shaws and Sons Ltd., while she previously served on the Boards of the Irish Post Office and the National Airports Authority.

She has now been appointed as the Chair of the Design & Crafts Council of Ireland, with Jobs Minister Mary Mitchell O'Connor expressing confidence that she'll help boost Ireland's craft and design industry abroad.
