The Irish Aviation Authority has granted permission for Santa to enter Irish air space this Christmas Eve, despite earlier concerns over storm Barbara.

And, tens of thousands of people have been making their way through Shannon Airport as part of their trip home.

With only two sleeps til Christmas day, the last minute rush is underway in towns and villages across the county.

And with many driving home for Christmas, the warning is to be careful on our roads.

The good news, at least, is that the weather's due to clear up later tonight which means it'll be a smooth ride for Santa when he makes his trip around the world on Christmas Eve.

Michelle Dillon from Met Éireann says she and her colleagues will be on hand at Shannon Airport to ensure it's clear skies all the way.

It's been a busy week so far at Shannon Airport as family and friends travel home.

Passenger numbers are up this year with seventy thousand passengers passing through the Mid-west airport over the holiday period.

Head of Operations Niall Moloney says it's a joyous occasion.

The weather today is failing to dampen the Christmas spirit on the street of Ennis.

People have been telling Clare FM about their plans for Christmas and the New Year.
