Nationally, 738 people have been arrested on suspicion of drink driving since the start of the month.
That's a 34 per cent increase on last December.
On Christmas Day alone, 14 drivers were arrested on suspicion of being under the influence.
Gardaí will be out in force over the coming days, particularly on New Year's eve, checking for drink driving both at night and the following morning, when the affects of drink can still be felt.
