The latest quarterly survey from Daft.ie shows the average price of a home here is just under 157,000 euro, up by nearly 15,000 euro in the past year.

It comes as househunters can apply for the 'help-to-buy' scheme online from today.

It was introduced in October's budget and will give first time buyers of new homes 5 per cent back on the price of their property.

Economist Ronan Lyons is the author of today's Daft report – he says the lack of supply is pushing up prices.
