‘Help To Buy’ Scheme Opens Today

Applications for the 'help to buy' scheme for homeowners are being accepted online from today.

Applications for the 'help to buy' scheme for homeowners are being accepted online from today.

The government unveiled the scheme last October, allowing a 5 per cent tax rebate for first time buyers of new homes.

It comes amid fresh warnings about the impact on prices of the lack of supply on properties for sale – The typical Clare home has now recovered over 30% of its value since the bottom of the economic crash.

The latest quarterly survey from Daft.ie shows the average price of a home here is just under 157,000 euro, up by nearly 15,000 euro in the past year.

Ronan Lyons from Daft.ie says much of the commentary has focused on the need for 25 thousand new units nationally a year – but he believes the real figure could be much higher
