The Irish Business Against Litter study shows that both Shannon and Ennis are cleaner than European Norms.

Shannon is ranked in tenth position in this IBAL survey.  The town's Smithstown Business Park, Aidan Park and Town Park were said to be in excellent order.

While Ennis, in sixth, had it's best ever performace in the IBAL.

The three approach roads into the town scored the top litter grade.

Merchant's Square and Market Place scored well,  with The Hawthorns described as immaculate.

The survey is conducted by An Taisce in 40 areas nationwide and Conor Horgan of IBAL says it's an excellent result.

Mayor of Ennis Ann Norton has welcomed the report and commended volunteers for their efforts in reducing litter in the county.

While she welcomes the survey she accepts that the job is not finished.
