It comes as the HSE's blamed a surge in winter illnesses like the flu, for the current surge in demand for services at the country's hospitals.
 
There were record levels of overcrowding yesterday, with more people waiting for beds at University hosptial Limerick than any other hospital in the country.
 
It's reported that sixteen ambulances, which it's claimed is the HSE's entire fleet for the Mid-West region, were parked up at the Dooradoyle facility at one point yesterday evening, as paramedics waited to offload patients into the ED.
 
Less than 20% of nurses have got the flu jab but the INMO's Midwest representative, Mary Fogarty, insists that staff vaccination rates aren't a major factor in the current crisis.
