The National Treatment Purchase Fund aims to have no people on the list waiting more than 15 months for treatment by July.
They've been given a budget of 20 million euro to provide private treatment for those on public waiting lists.
The Minister hopes it will take 3,000 of those waiting the longest off the lists.
The NTPF's own figures show there are over 5,100 patients waiting at least 15 months for an outpatient appointment across the UL Hospitals Group, as well as nearly 300 more who are waiting that long for an inpatient procedure.
