20-year-old Eoin McDonnell of Thomond Mills, Sixmilebridge appeared before Limerick District Court yesterday where he admitted two counts of attempting to bribe Garda Alan Griffin, stationed at Henry Street Garda Station, Limerick.

The court heard that Mr. McDonnell was arrested on January 29th last, and offered Garda Griffin a bribe of €2,000 at Henry Street Garda Station, while the following day he offered him €5,000 after they met by chance at a bar in the city.

The Irish Examiner reports that Mr. McDonnell's solicitor said he had no previous convictions, and that it was an act of absolute stupidity.

Mr McDonnell was remanded on bail ahead of sentencing in March.
