354 people lost their lives with the sinking of the Laurentic, a British naval vessel, which struck a mine in Lough Swilly on January 25th 1917.

Mr Maloney, who perished in the incident, had been among those to assist with the rescue of the crew of the Leon off West Clare in 1907.

A number of his great-great grandchildren attend St Joseph's Secondary School in Spanish Point, and they're involved in a ceremony in Quilty at 2pm tomorrow.

The event ties in with a three-day commemorative festival in Derry.
