Councillors are to receive a 1,000 euro pay hike as well as increases in their expenses.

The reforms proposed by Minister Simon Coveney would see greater allowances under the vouched expenses system, as well as a new 1,000 euro payment.

In total, it will see close to 3500 euro being made available to Councillors.

The President of the Association of Local Government and Ennis Fianna Fáil Councillor Pat Daly insists they're not rolling in the money just yet.

The reforms to the vouched expenses system, which means much of this extra money will only paid out when it is accounted for, has been welcomed across party lines

Fine Gael's Johnny Flynn, also of Ennis says some Councillors have unavoidable costs.
