David Hanley was speaking as the industrial diamond manufacturer has announced 100 new engineering and manufacturing jobs at it's base in Shannon this morning.

Element Six, formerly known as De Beers, is making a seven million euro investment in tandem with today's jobs announcement.

The company will be looking to fill positions in it's supply chain, engineering and manufacturing areas.

Specializing  in synthetic diamond super materials used in mining, the automotive and manufacturing industries, Element Six has been been apart of the Clare landscape for 60 years.

General Manager of its Shannon plant David Hanley says today's announcement is a sign of the quality of the workforce.

The announcement today by Element Six comes after the company went through cost-cutting measures in recent years.

In 2009, it was on the brink of closure, citing the 'high cost of doing business in Ireland.'

However, it has since rebounded, and today's announcement brings to the total funding invested there in the past four years to over 40 million euro.

Niall O'Callaghan, the IDA's Business and Relationship Manager for the MidWest Region, says that's welcome.

It's hoped that today's announcement will be the first of many this year in Clare.

Cathaoirleach of Clare County Council Bill Chambers says the Council is looking forward to playing its part in boosting employment numbers here.
