An Ennis Councillor is hitting out at illegal dumping in the county after new figures showed that over 12,000 euro in unpaid litter fines were issued last year.

The number of complaints for littering or dumping fell in 2016, from over 1,300 to 1,237, but only 131 fines were issued, and only 49 were paid.
Councillor Mary Howard believes people need to take responsibility for their own rubbish, saying those responsible have become increasingly vigilant in ensuring that they can't be identified.
