The latest figures from the INMO show 48 people are waiting for beds at University Hospital Limerick, 23 of those in the emergency department.

It's the highest number of any hospital, on a day when the overall number of patients on trolleys across the country has exceeded 600.

The UL Hospitals Group is warning of long delays and at the Dooradoyle facility, saying the high number of patients attending the unit over the past number of days has led to excessive waiting times.

It's reminding people to keep the ED for emergencies only and to contact their GP or GP Out of Hours services in the first instance, while people with minor injuries are encouraged to attend the injury unit at Ennis General Hospital.
