Battlefield sites in Cratloe, Kilalloe and Rineen could be declared protected sites under a new proposal by a Meelick based Councillor.
Protective status currently can only be placed on a physical structure but Fianna Fail Councillor Cathal Crowe argues that needs to be changed following a visit to the Kilmicheal Ambush site in County Cork.
Excavators removed large amounts of material without an archelogical survey and altered the site to make it more attractive for tourists.
