‘Storm Of Events’ To Blame For Low Kilkee Visitor Numbers

It’s claimed a bathing ban alone wasn’t to blame for decreased tourism numbers in Kilkee in recent weeks.

Former Chair of Loop Head Tourism Cillian Murphy says a perfect storm of events including Riverfest, the Great Limerick Run and a recent Munster match have all impacted heavily on footfall at the West Clare tourist hot spot.

A ‘Do Not Swim’ notice, which was issued by Clare County Council in December, remains in place until works are completed by Irish Water at the local waste water treatment plant.

The intention to lift the ban in the coming weeks has been reaffirmed at a meeting with the local authority yesterday and West Clare Tourism Operator Cillian Murphy has been telling Clare FM’s Fiona Cahill that he’s confident that will be the case:
