A west Clare businessman is within touching distance of becoming the first person from the county to reach the world’s highest point.
John Burke from Miltown Malbay is part of a team that is expected to reach Camp 4 on Mount Everest this lunchtime, and will make an attempt to reach the summit later tonight.
The climb is in aid of a new Clare based charity Elevate, which was set up by John and his wife, actress Aoibhin Garrihy, to help support youth wellness in the county.
