The Northern Ireland Secretary of State says “the point is coming” where direct rule from Westminster must be introduced.
James Brokenshire says it will be necessary if the Northern parties can’t reach a deal to restore power-sharing.
He says the British government believes local power-sharing is in Northern Ireland’s best interests.

But he says the impasse has consequences for the Civil Service in the North – and direct rule might be necessary soon.
