The Transport Minister has said that 800 jobs have been created in aviation and aerospace industries in Shannon over the past five years.
Minister Shane Ross has given an update on employment growth in Shannon, though it appears that there’s still a way to go in achieving targets that were set out when the Airport gained independence from the DAA.

Shannon Airport is in its fifth year of independence, and in that time air traffic there has grown by 24%.
The Airport is operated by Shannon Group, which also assumed responsability for the some of the business functions that had been carried out by Shannon Development.
One of its goals included the creation of an International Aviation Services Centre, as bosses targeted growth in the aviation sector close to the Airport itself.
That growth has been recorded, with an uptick in the aviation sector over recent years.

When Shannon was declared independent, it had been hoped that 3,000 new jobs would be created as a result of the move by 2021.
