Varadkar Backs Proposed Drug Possession Criminal Regime Changes

The Taoiseach has given his backing to moves which would decriminalise possession of a small amount of drugs.

Leo Varadkar says the criminal punishment for drug users with small amounts is a barrier to moving on with their lives.

A new national drugs policy launched today also includes plans to expand the role of midwives who specialise in dealing with addicted mothers.

Speaking at its launch, Leo Varadkar suggested the current criminal regime for drug possession is too harsh.
