Council Outlines Blake’s Corner Plans Ahead Of Protest

Clare County Council has announced that it expects a planning application to be submitted in respect of Blake’s Corner by the end of the year.

However, some locals in the town are seeking immediate action to ease traffic issues and will hold a demonstration this evening.

Clare FM’s James Mulhall reports:

This evening’s demonstration is being organised by locals who are frustrated at the ongoing congestion at the infamous traffic blackspot.

With more delays this summer, they’re looking for immediate action to ease traffic issues, such as a warden or a traffic management system.

They’ll demonstrate at O’Brien’s Shop from 6pm this evening.

Ahead of the demonstration, meanwhile, Clare County Council has said it is confident the proposed improvement scheme to address these issues will advance to planning by the end of the year.

The Council’s plan includes a new inner relief road and additional bridge across the Inagh River.

In a statement, the local authority says it has been in consultation with Transport Infrastrucure Ireland and An Board Pleanala in relation to the development and that it’s been advised that the Part 8 planning process is the appropriate route for the project, meaning it would be developed by the Council itself.
