The Clare Branch of St Vincent DePaul says the announcement of increased supports for disadvantaged students is a step in the right direction.
The Department of Education this week announced a series of supports such as bursaries of up to €5,000 for students who are coming from disadvantaged areas.
It’s thought that as few as 16 per cent of students from poorer areas continue to higher level education.

John Cullinane of Clare SVP says these announcements are welcome but he says there are still improvements which could be made.
