Round Up From Clare SHC & Clare IHC Action

The last eight in the the race for the 2017 Clare Senior Hurling championship have been decided.

Holders Ballyea had to withstand a huge challenge from O’Callaghans Mills before coming through their Round Three tie by 0-19 to 0-18.

Niall Deasy accounted for 0-11 of his sides tally while Tony Kelly hit 0-7.

2014 champions Cratloe advanced to the quarter finals with an impressive 0-27 to 0-11 win over St Josephs Doora Barefield.

Tulla produced a stubborn performance to beat Inagh/Kilnamona by 2-11 to 1-12, with goalkeeper Daniel Vaughan making a brilliant save from a last minute penalty by Pat Kelly to send his side through to the next round.

Clooney Quin are also through after they beat Whitegate with county star Peter Duggan once more top scoring for the winners with 0-12, as they won by 0-17 to 0-11.

In the battle for survival, Clarecastle and Feakle will contest the relegation final after both lost their third consecutive game of this years championship.

Crusheen eased past the Magpies, winning by 1-23 to 0-11 with Conor O’Donnell finding the back of the net inside the opening ten minutes.

Wolfe Tones produced a brilliant second half performance to beat Feakle 0-23 to 0-14, despite trailing 0-10 to 0-8 at the break.

Aaron Shanagher top scored for the Shannon men with a personal tally of 0-9 while Aaron Cunningham accounted for 0-4 from play.

It means the draw for the quarter finals will have Newmarket, Sixmilebridge, Eire Og and Clonlara in Pot One, and they will be drawn against the teams in Pot B, who are Ballyea, Cratloe, Tulla and Clooney/Quin.

In the intermediate championship, Sixmilebridge’s second side are through to the last eight after beating Ruan, Smith O’Briens beat Cratloe’s second string to advance while Tubber edged their North Clare derby with Corofin.

The remaining round three game on Sunday sees the second sides of Clarecastle and Newmarket meet in Tulla at 1.30pm.
