Dr Bhamjee Fears Suicide Is Becoming “Fashionable” Solution To Problems

A prominent Clare psychiatrist fears that suicide has become a “fashionable” solution to problems for many young people.

Provisional figures contained in the National Office for Suicide Prevention’s annual report has found the suicide rate here was 14 in 100,000, in the three years up to and including last year, which amounts to 50 suicides in Clare over that period.

The rate is falling, but is still higher than had been the case before the economic downturn.
