The HSE is still urging people to get the flu vaccine, despite concerns about its effectiveness.
Recent reports have suggested that Ireland could be hit with a flu epidemic this winter, and the vaccine’s efficacy has also been estimated at only 40-60 per cent.
However, experts say that’s not the case, and have also insisted there’s no signs of an epidemic at this point.

It is two months before the expected peak of the flu season, and Dr. Rose Fitzgerald – a Public Health Specialist with HSE MidWest – says it’s vital that people in at-risk groups get the jab.
