Level Of Homelessness In Clare Continuing To Rise

The number of homeless people in Clare is continuing to rise.

The latest figures from the Department of Housing shows 48 adults in the county were without a permanent roof over their head in September, up from 43 the previous month.

While, the number of homless children in the Midwest has risen to 152 – almost three times the number at the beginning of the year.

The Housing Minister has admitted progress on tackling homelessness is too slow, after the figures also revealed that there are now a record 8,300 people in emergency accomodation nationally.

Minister Eoghan Murphy says there are signs of improvement in Dublin, however, where the highest levels of homelessness have been recorded.
