People in Clare are being urged to make use of the injury and medical units at Ennis General over Christmas and in the new year.
The appeal comes as the number of patients on trolleys at University Hospital Limerick’s emergency department has been regularly spiking in recent weeks.
While UHL is still open to those who have serious injuries, or believe their life may be at risk, people are being advised they may be seen quicker in Ennis.
