Emergency Protocal In Place At UHL On All But Four Days Last Year

The government has accepted that the use of an full capacity protocal at University Hospital Limerick is compromising the care for patients.

The measure is designed to change working practices at the hospital at times when it is very busy, but the Dáil has heard that this was the case on 361 days last year.

Limerick Sinn Féin TD Maurice Quinlivan has raised concerns, saying it is leading to overcrowding on wards, the cancellation of elective procedures, and what he has called “aggressive discharging.”
