UHL Records Highest Ever Level Of Overcrowding For January

Nurses say University Hospital Limerick recorded the highest ever level of overcrowding in the country for the month of January.

New figures from the INMO show 1,003 people were left waiting for beds at the region’s main hospital last month – a 26% rise on the same time last year and around 170 more than the next busiest facility.

There were 40 people on trolleys at Ennis General Hospital meanwhile, down from 46 in the same month last year.

The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation claims the current trolley crisis is “dangerous” and “unsafe for staff” and General Secretary, Phil Ni Sheaghdha, says the situation can’t continue.
