Communications Minister Dismisses Critics Who Say Broadband Rollout Is Too Slow

The Communications Minister has dismissed criticism over the National Broadband Plan, saying those who claim the roll-out of the service is too slow “are wrong”.

Minister Denis Naughten made the comments while on an official visit to Clare today.

Last night, the Communications Minster rejected calls from Clare’s Fianna Fáil TD Timmy Dooley and his party for a review of the National Broadband plan.

It follows the withdrawal of Eir from the process – leaving Enet as the only bidder for the massive contract to deliver rural broadband.

Deputy Dooley, who is his party’s Communications Spokesperson says his party withdrew a previous motion on the matter, but insists that won’t be repeated.

But Minister Denis Naughten believes a review would delay the process by at least another six months, and while visiting Ennis today for a number of engagements has once again rejected criticism of the plan.

He told Clare FM’s Morning Focus that any such review would be a mistake.
